Over the years, my accessories seemed to have shrunk in size; I’ve swapped oversized hoop earrings (yes, you read that right - in my defence, everyone was wearing them) for small studs and statement necklaces for minimalist chokers.  I guess it’s only fitting that my scarves start to shrink in size too.

I’ve always loved the look of a small neck scarf (also known as a neckerchief or a neck tie), but only recently started wearing them. I think of them more as jewellery than a scarf because they fill both needs for me. When I purchased this grey neck scarf for $9, I wasn’t sure the best way to tie it, but quickly figured it out.  If you’re thinking about trying this trend, here are the two basic methods I use.

HOW TO TIE A NECK SCARF

A Thin Neck Tie like this One

  1. Fold the scarf in half.

  2. Wrap it around your neck once or twice (depending on your preference and the length of the scarf),

  3. Tie a knot and twist it to the side.

  4. Fan out the ends of the scarf.

A Bandana like this One

  1. Fold the square bandanna into a triangle.

  2. Continue folding it until it forms one long strand.

  3. Wrap it around your neck once or twice.

  4. Tie a knot and twist to the side

  5. Fan out the ends of the bandana.

Keep in mind that these are just guidelines - there really are no rules. Play around with your scarf until you find a style you like; try tucking in the ends, adjusting the thickness, rolling instead of folding, wearing your scarf on your wrist, or even tying it on your bag.
