If you’re the kind of crafter that is impatient, gets frustrated easily, and swears in your head during your crafting sessions, you’ve just found your people.
Welcome to my super duper easy DIYs; these projects are made for people that are looking for affordable (and easy) gift ideas, crafts, and decor. And I really do emphasize the easy part — they come together within one crafting session and require minimal materials.
Today we’re making DIY minimalist wood bead Christmas ornaments; they make beautiful gifts and also are an affordable way to get that neutral, minimalist Christmas tree of your dreams.

SUPPLIES
Wood beads in a variety of sizes. I used one container of mixed large wood beads and one container of mixed small wood beads.
Scissors
Optional: ribbon, charms, or anything else you’d like to use to decorate your Christmas ornament. I used some heart stamping charms I had leftover from when I used to make jewelry, and I LOVE the look they created; I found similar ones on Amazon here.
A note about the jute: pick something that has a bit of stiffness; this will make threading the beads super easy.
STEP ONE: CUT YOUR TWINE & TIE A LOOP AT THE END
Decide how long you want your ornament to be and then add five inches (so you have enough length to tie knots and make loops). Then cut a piece of jute that length. Don’t stress about this too much because these ornaments are very forgiving. If I’m being totally honest, I eyeballed it most of the time and had fun creating different lengths and patterns. I warned you that I’m an impatient crafter!
Once you have your length of jute, tie a loop at one end; I just doubt knotted it, but if you’re a knot expert, then go ahead and do something fancier.
STEP TWO: STRING YOUR BEADS
This is where it gets fun! There are no rules here, so play around with different sized beads and patterns.
STEP THREE: TIE THE KNOT
Once you have an ornament that you’re happy with, just tie a knot a couple times at the end of the jute so the beads don’t slip off. Try to make it as close to your final bead as possible so there’s not a lot of “blank” jute showing at the top of the ornament when it’s hanging on the tree. If you don’t want to add anything else to the bottom of the ornament, you’re done! Seriously, that’s it. Can you believe it?! If you have excess jute at the bottom, give it a trim with scissors.
OPTIONAL - STEP FOUR: GET FANCY
If you want to add more detail to your tree ornaments, you can attach a bow (I used this tutorial to make my own), charms, a tassel, or anything else you can think of. To attach each item, all I did was tie a knot around it and then trim the ends.
And would you look at that — no swearing or throwing things was involved in this DIY! I originally was going to make these as gifts, but I’m going to have to make another batch because I’m absolutely keeping these for myself. If you make them, don’t forget to tag me on Instagram or leave a comment below. Happy holidays!
