STORAGE BINS: THE BEST TALL STORAGE BASKETS FOR ORGANIZED SHELVES

Small Closet? No Room to Store Anything? No Problem.

I'm back with more storage solutions to help you organize your closet! I already tackled my shoe storage issue and maximized my hanging space by using slim hangers - click here to see the full blog post, including photos.

Next up, I wanted to maximize the vertical space in my closet on the top shelf. I thought about adding a second wire shelf, but the support brackets would limit what I could put on both shelves, so I decided to just maximize the current setup that I already had.

I needed the bins to:

  • be a minimum of 10" high, preferably more

  • be textured to bring some interest to the space (made of wicker, rattan, rope etc.)

  • have handles

  • be sturdy (I can't stand floppy bins)

  • be affordable (preferably under $20 each)

  • not have a lid (I wanted easy access to everything inside)

I'm happy to report that after countless hours of searching, I finally found the perfect storage bins, and I'm so excited to share them with you! These bins are not only functional, but also beautifully complement my modern traditional home decor. What makes them truly special is their height and size - they fit perfectly on standard wire closet shelves, helping me maximize every inch of space.

If you’re like me and struggle with keeping your closet both organized and aesthetically pleasing, these bins might be just what you’ve been looking for to transform your space.

The Best Storage Baskets that are Tall

The vertical space above a closet shelf always seems like such wasted space to me because you can only stack sweaters and jeans so high. Combine that with how hard it is to find aesthetic storage baskets in large sizes, and it proves to be quite the challenge.

Storage Bins and Baskets that go with your Home Decor

Wicker baskets are one of those things that I'm always sourcing because the opportunities and spaces you can use them in are endless. They can be used to corral items in open spaces, and I personally use them for toiletries, toy storage, blanket storage, clothing storage, and book storage.

Because I'll be seeing them everyday, I wanted more than just a standard plastic storage bin.  These decorative storage bins are made from seagrass, offering both durability and an aesthetic touch that complements a wide range of home decor styles. Available in both dark brown and natural finishes,  they add a warm, earthy vibe to the space. For a cohesive look, you could even mix and match them throughout your home.

You can check out a video of my baskets in real life here.

Finally, they are easy to clean and have the sturdiness that I was looking for. They have a metal frame that you can see clearly in this video that I made about them, which means they keep their shape when you pick them up.

The Best Storage Baskets for Shelves

I'm so thrilled with how tidy my small bedroom closet is feeling.  I was this close to hiring a home organizer, but I'm so glad I didn't. I was able to find the perfect bins that gave me everything I needed, and all within my budget. Because these bins are so beautiful to look at, they would also be awesome in a laundry room, playroom, or basically every room in your home that needs some stealth home organization.

Decorative Storage and Organizing  FAQs

1. What are some other effective ways to maximize space in a small closet?

To maximize space in a small closet, consider using stackable storage solutions. If you're not picky about aesthetics, items like plastic storage bins can be stacked to utilize vertical space efficiently. Incorporating storage baskets for shelves can help keep smaller items organized and easy to access. Additionally, using rattan baskets or wire baskets can add both functionality and aesthetics to your closet. Lastly, ensure everything in your home has a designated spot to prevent clutter from accumulating.

2. How can I organize my small closet without spending a lot of money?

Organizing a small closet doesn't have to be expensive, and it's totally possible in every home. Start by decluttering and donating items you no longer wear. Use storage baskets for toy storage or to organize shoes. You can even repurpose items you already have, such as using a large basket for seasonal clothing or a few smaller ones for accessories.

3. What are the best storage solutions for shoes in a small closet?

For shoe storage in a small closet, consider using a combination of storage bins, storage ottomans, and storage containers. You can stack plastic storage bins on the floor or use a shoe rack that fits in your closet. Hanging shoe organizers can also be a great way to save space. If you prefer a more decorative option, look for baskets for organizing your home that can hold multiple pairs of shoes while keeping them accessible on open shelves.

4. How can I use vertical space in a small closet effectively?

Using vertical space effectively involves installing shelves, using slim hangers, and/or using closet dividers on your shelves. If you have a closet rod, try using cascading hangers to maximize hanging space.

5. What types of containers are ideal for organizing a small closet?

Ideal containers for organizing a small closet include storage baskets for shelves, wire baskets, ottomans with storage (I love our faux linen one), beautiful baskets, boxes, and jewelry organizers.
