I’ve never been enthusiastic about making New Year’s resolutions; I usually prefer to make changes to my behaviour, relationships, and life in general throughout the year as I feel inspired to.
My husband and I attended a New Year’s Eve party this year, and as I listened to other people’s resolutions, something funny happened: I wanted to make some for myself. By that time, it was less than an hour before midnight, so I missed jumping on the bandwagon with everyone else. Lucky for me, I’m a firm believer that it’s never too late to make a change, so I decided to make some late-January resolutions for myself. If you know me, this is a challenge in itself because I’m a perfectionist - if I can’t do it perfectly, I’d rather not do it at all. So let’s start there:
MY 2018 NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
Learn to be comfortable with “less than perfect”. I will still strive for perfection, but I am going to work on being okay with things when they aren’t exactly how I would like them to be.
Be kinder to myself. My inner perfectionist dialogue can be harsh. This year, I’m going to try to change my inner thoughts and dialogue to the type of words and advice that I would use with friends.
Drink more water. Totally random, but I’m horrible at it.
Let go a little. I’d like to give up the concept that I need to control everything and embrace going with the flow more.
I was going to make a 5th resolution, but I feel like I have my work cut out for me here. Most of my resolutions are due to my type-A personality, which can actually be a wonderful trait - I’d just like to make it even better.
